Before we can start designing, we need to fully understand what it is that you require.  

In order for us to share your vision and commit to your idea we need to understand you and your company, the way you work and your ethos. We will spend as much time as neccessary with you to understand your expectations and the requiments for your project. Communication and understanding is as much apart of the process as the good ideas that stem from it.

Once we understand what is required, Axia's designers carry out research into market needs, materials, processes, innovations and more, to give us the best platform possible to start designing.

We will take time to talk to users, buyers, suppliers, manufacturers and installers and find out what exactly it is that will differentiate your special product.

Research is about composing a "Product Architecture", defining the requirements that are most important to the stakeholders and therefor the most important aspects of the product.

 

The requirements outlined from the research need to be translated into an object or product possibility.

This process starts with the kicking around of ideas commonly referred to as concept generation. Nothing is too "out there" not to be considered and as many potential solutions as possible are explored. We hold multiple creative sessions, allowing time to digest and evolve ideas in-between.

The results of these sessions are translated and shared through mock-ups, concept sketches and simple CAD modeling to be weighed and tested against the product requirements, to provide a refined platform for further development. 

 

From initial concept through to the final product there are many aspects to consider. Choice of materials, how it will be manufactured and assembled, production costs vs sales price, usability, environmental factors, packaging and more, all of which will have a impact on the outcome.

These aspects all need to be explored through a combination of all phases of the process, more research, further concept sketches, prototypes and mockups, more detailed CAD models, until a product has been defined which is the right combination of all these aspects and best meets the requirements of all stakeholders.

This is the detailed design stage. The Axia design team use a combination of 3D surface and solid modeling CAD design packages to explore all the detailed aspects of how a product is to be manufactured, assembled and packaged.

The 3D modeling process, in conjunction with prototyping, provides a very efficient back end process that allows us and our clients to ensure the product is fully defined. It allows for pre-production testing to ensure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed prior to any significant investment in manufacturing.  

Prototypes and mockups are used throughout the design process. Whether it be to explore form options early on in concepts stages, or test mechanical options during more detailed design phases, prototypes are essential for saving both time and money and aviod costly tooling errors.

At Axia we have in-house 3D printing capability, partnerships with fabricators, machine shops and skilled tinkerers, which ensures mock-ups, prototypes and test beds are an easy and cost-effective option.

Where integration into existing product is needed, the team at Axia are able to reverse engineer a solution for you; either from scratch, or by using existing 2D drawings, CAD files, by 3D scanning, or medical dicom data from CT or MRI scans.

It is imperative that the end point for all design is successful manufacture. Whether components need to be fabricated, CNC machined, injection moulded, blow moulded, vacuum formed, laser or waterjet cut, extruded, composite moulded, fabricated, or additive manufactured - if you don't have the know-how or the relationship with existing suppliers we do.
